Bovallstrand
is situated where the waves of the North Sea roll into the shelter
of the Bottna fjord.
A genuine fishing community between Smögen and Fjällbacka
dating back to the 16th century.
Back then, shipping and fishing were the main sources of livelihood
here. Bovallstrand has also been a major port of shipment for the
red granite quarried from Korpåsberget, which is located in
the middle of the community.
Bovallstrands harbour is home to one of the best restaurants
on Swedens west coast, Bryggcafét.
The
fantastic light at Bottnafjorden attracted a school, Gerlesborgsskolan,
in the 1940s.
At the intersection of the flat rocks of the archipelago and lush
coastal meadows is the main cultural centre in the county of Bohuslän.
The Gerlesborg School of
Fine Arts is known throughout the world.
Soteleden,
a hiking trail offering a choice of short and long hiking and running
trails, passes through beautiful meadows, enchanting beech woods
and granite rocks.
