To
consider
before purchasing a door |
| When
buying a new door, it is important to consider the following: |
|
|
|
How
exposed is the door?
Will
it rain on the door?
Could water splash up from the stairs in front of the door?
Could wind blow the rain onto the door?
If so, we recommend that you choose a door made from teak, which withstands
water better than any other material.
|
| |
|
Could
the wind throw open the door?
If
so, we recommend that you purchase a door-stopper. A door stopper is an
inexpensive insurance that will prevent the door from being violently
thrown open, which can damage the door leaf. The hinges may break, which
could lead to the door not being able to be closed properly.
|
| |
Is
the door exposed to direct sunlight?
Remember
that dark colours fade faster than light ones. Dark blue and red hues are
especially sensitive to sunlight. |
| |
MAINTENANCE
Wood
doors with an oil finish require maintenance.
It is never possible to say how often you need to treat your door with oil.
It depends on how exposed it is to the sun and to the rain. |
Veneer
doors require more oil than doors made from solid wood.
Oak doors need to be oiled much more frequently than teak doors. If left
untreated, oak doors will become ugly and covered in black dots. |

How
much light do you want to let in?
If
you want a lot of light, we recommend a model with a window opening that
extends far down the door. Alternatively, we can produce fixed window sections,
sidelights and transom-windows that go with the door. |
| |
Do
you want to prevent others from seeing in?
If
so, select frosted glass, lined glass or another type of obscure glass.
We offer a range of alternatives that are suitable for period-style doors. |
